Donating blood is a noble thing to do!
The Goa Chapter of Young Indians (Yi) which is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry, has organized blood donation camps across Goa to mark World Blood Donors Day on June 14. The camps take place from 9.30am to 12.30pm on June 13 at Vision Hospital, Mapusa; on June 14 at Manipal Hospital, Dona Paula, Panaji; on June 15 at Hospicio Hospital, Margao. All blood collected will be sent to the Goa Medical College blood bank.
Speaking at press conference on the eve of the blood camps Dr Priyanka Raikar described the donation of blood as a noble casue. She pointed out that donating blood is not injurious to health as is a general perception! Folk who shy away from donating their blood may be interested in learning that donating blood has benefits like significant lowering of mean total cholesterol, lowering risk of heart attacks and heart disease. And, “as per recent studies, it’s noticed that it helps to reduce risk of cancer, enhances the production of new blood cells, prevents hemochromatosis, maintains healthy liver and helps in weight loss too.” She had a pat for the Indian Navy which never hesitates in donating blood and there is a camp at the INHS Jeevanthi too to commemorate World Blood Donor’s Day.
So don’t think twice. Participate in the blood donation drive this weekend.
