A total of 47 conspirators, including 17 priests and seven army officers, were arrested. Some were sentenced or depoted to Portugal for 20 years and others, the less fortunate ones were dragged through the streets after being tied to a horse, hanged and later their hands were chopped off and fixed on stakes for public display at Tobacco Square (area opposite General Post office surrounded by ‘The Mint’ on one side and St. Tome Chapel on other) in Panjim as a warning to any upcoming revolutionaries.
