The state government is planning a mega vaccinations drive that will cover 30 locations including primary Urban Community Health centres and private hospitals.
There are reportedly 1.5 lakh senior citizens in Goa, the highest proportion in the country. IN addition there are an estimated 1.5 lakh people who fall within the 45/59 category with morbidity who are eligible for the vaccine.
As against the three lakh citizens who are eligible for vaccines less than 2,500 are turning up for the same. Only 1.4% of senior citizens and 0.2% of the 45- 59 age group who have other medical complications have turned up for vaccination.
Even health care workers who are directly in touch with Covid-19 patients are not interested in taking the second dose. Of the 21 ,998 health care workers which includes doctors and nurses only 1/3rd or 7,000 have taken the vaccine.
The case of frontline workers which includes ward boys and security of the GMC and police constable only 542 of the almost 10,000 eligible have taken the vaccine.
THis may be due to problems on registering on the App and the lack of confidence in government hospitals, For those who can afford it they can go to private hospital like Manipal Rs 250 register on the spot and take the vaccine.
KIDNEY PATIENTS INCREASING
Dr JP Tiwari is the head of the Nephrology department of the GMC has expressed concerned that most patients are turning up late for medical help.
In over 75% of Cronic kidney disease they are conditioned gets diagonised only at a very advanced stage when little can be done. This may be possible because very often CKD does not manifest any symptoms.
The largest number of kidney patients are from the Canacona Taluka. The reason for the large number of cases in Taluka have not been identified.
Those who have CKD have to undergo dylasis atleast three times a week which is a very expensive procedure. Dylasis involved cleaning the kidneys with distill water and takes an average of four hours.
Are facilities for kidney transplants in Goa which are done by a team of doctor including Dr Tiwari and Madhumohan. The donors have to be close relatives of the patients. It is possible for the donors who give one of their kidneys to close relatives like brothers and sister or even parents to function on one kidney.
