There have been some reports of serious side effects of the AstraZeneca covishield vaccine which is manufactured under the covishield brand name by the Serum institute of India in Pune and Maharashtra.
It is been reported that a senior doctor in a medical facility in Kerala died after taking the second of dose of covishield. There have been reports from other parts of the world that covishield or AstraZeneca causes blood clots. Indeed many of the country in Europe including Germany and France have stopped using the covishield vaccine.
The company has been insisting that there is no connection between the blood clots and the vaccine. The company has also agreed to publish the full trail data after the United States National Institute of Allergy has alleged that the company may not have given a complete report on the effectiveness of the vaccine.
This is important as the experience of European countries is that it is not effective against the south African variant of the covid-19. So much so the European countries which are bought huge quantities of covid -19 are selling or gifting it to poorer third world countries. The efficiency of the covishield vaccine has been estimated at only around 79%. It may be effective in stopping symptomatic illness but may not be useful in serious cases.
Oxford the University which developed the vaccine however claims that in Chili and Peru the studies showed that the vaccine was 100% affected against severe disease and did not pose any risk of blood clots.
All the covid-19 vaccine that have been cleared by the world health organisation have been permitted to be used on an emergency basis on Humans even before the full completion of the trails on select groups.
