GOA RECORDS HIGHEST SPIKE, NO SAFETY CHECKS

Despite Goa witnessing the highest ever spike in daily covid-19 cases of as much as 757 even the routine SOPs are not being observed in restaurants and casinos. The previous peak was as far back as September 12 2020 during the first wave when Goa reported 740 cases.

The positivity rate which is the ratio of covid-19 positive results to the total number of cases tested per day jumped up to 27.92%. So much so almost 1/3rd of the cases tested are reporting positive. Senior health officer expect the daily positive cases will cross 1000 before the weekend.

As the Director of Covid-19 Dr Shivanand Bandekar has put it “the virus is behaving the way it usually behave but we citizens are not taking the precaution that we should,. If we do not wear mask and maintain physical distance the cases will go up. The importance of masks and physical distance has been dramatised at the Kumbh Mela when between April 10 and 14 1,700 people tested positive in the Friday period. Indeed the head of one of the religious group participating in the last two “Royal baths” died of covid-19.

As per information availble no direction has been issued by the collectors to revenue officials of police to carry out surprise check at Restaurants casinos and hotels to see if covid-19 safety check are in place. The fine of Rs 500 for not wearing mask does not seems to have much affect.

At a National Level there were more then two lakh cases on Thursday while the active cases have crossed 15 lakhs. The death toll is close to two lakhs per day which is the highest since October 2020. In just a few weeks Delhi has become the worst hit city in the country with 20,000 fresh cases on Thursday and 112 fatalities. A curfew has been declared in the National Capital during the weekend and malls Gyms and auditorium have been closed till April 30. applied
