While AAP has received a total of Rs 65.45 crores between April 18, 2019 and July 26, 2023, it has only disclosed donors for 2018-2019.
The Bajaj group is the largest donor of electoral bonds to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) according to the party’s submission to the Election Commission of India (ECI) which subsequently went to the Supreme Court and was published by the poll body on its website on Sunday (March 17). The list includes the names of the donors of electoral bonds worth Rs 5.75 crores received by the party between April 23, 2018 to May 25, 2019.
According to Supreme Court mandated data published by the EC earlier this week, the AAP has received a total of Rs 65.45 crores between April 18, 2019 to July 26, 2023. Among political parties, AAP is the 11th highest recipient of electoral bonds.
According to the data made available on Sunday, Bajaj Group has donated Rs 3 crores to AAP in three instalments of Rs 1 crore each – all on April 10, 2019.
The Bajaj group has donated a total of Rs 48 crores as electoral bonds to all political parties.
AAP is among the ten political parties that have disclosed their donors on Sunday. The top three recipients of electoral bonds – the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Congress – have not yet disclosed the names of their donors.
Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited is the second highest donor to AAP having donated Rs 1 crore on May 15, 2019.
The Torrent group is the 10th highest donor of electoral bonds to all political parties, and has donated a total of Rs 184 crores, according to data made available by the EC.
The News Minute has reported that Torrent group’s chairman emeritus Sudhir Mehta is considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In 2014, after Modi became prime minister, Torrent Pharmaceuticals was the first company to secure an exemption from price control for its newly developed drug under a new drug pricing policy.
The report also said that Mehta and Gautam Adani have been a part of Modi’s 17-member delegation at the Indo-US CEO Forum between Barack Obama and Modi in Delhi in January 2015 and Modi’s delegation to Australia in November 2014.
BG Shirke Construction Technology has also donated Rs 1 crore to the AAP on May 21, 2019.
The Maharashtra based construction company has donated a total of Rs 117 crores to political parties, and is the 13th highest donor of electoral bonds, data has revealed.
BG Shirke Construction Technology describes itself as the country’s largest constructor of housing in India on its website. The website also lists the Mumbai Housing Area and Development Board (MHADA), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Tamil Nadu Housing Board, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Karnataka Housing Board, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Andhra Pradesh Rajiv Swagruha Corporation Limited, among others, as its clients.
The third highest donor to AAP is KMZ Investment that donated Rs 50 lakh, in five separate donations of Rs 10 lakh each, on April 12, 2019. According to zaubacorp.com, the company is involved in human health activities and is registered in Bengaluru.
AAP’s fourth highest donor is NJK Enterprises, a Bengaluru based company that has donated Rs 20 lakhs on April 18, 2019 in two donations of Rs 10 lakh each. According to CRISIL, it is primarily involved in manufacture and export of ready made garments. It is part of the group of India Design Exports Private Limited.
The remainder of its listed donations have come from individuals according to the donor names made available by the party.
