LETTER TO THE EDITOR FOR ISSUE JUNE 01 2024

NOW LIVING WILL KARO?

Has Goa become the first state to implement and operationalise “Living Will” advanced medical directives in the country? Maybe! The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Goa state branch along with Goa State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA) jointly organised the unveiling ceremony of Advanced Medical Directives (AMD) booklet at the hands of Justice MS Sonak, Justice Valmiki Menezes and Justice Jitendra Jain at a function held on May 31, 2024. Also present on the occasion were IMA (Goa State) president, Dr Sandesh Chodankar,  Dr Shekhar Salkar and other  dignitaries. In his welcome address Dr Salkar noted how the Supreme Court of India in its judgement dated January 2023 has paved the way for “End of Life Care (EOLC)” living will,  technically known as Advanced Medical Directives (AMD). This is expected to be a boon for patients living in futile hope for recovery. The AMD Booklet gives us a glimpse on various intricacies of a living will and links up to relevant documents and consents required. Justice Sonak (senior judge at High Court of Bombay at Goa) in his keynote address congratulated the stakeholders for making possible the implementation of AMD in Goa. He said Goa has become the first state to implement and operationalise “Living Will” Advanced Medical Directives in the country in true letter and spirit of the SC directives. He  appealed to people to understand the intricacies of a living will and make informed decisions. Others present included nephrologist Dr Amol Mahaldar, Dr Sandesh Chodankar,  Dinesh Shetty  Dr Medha Salkar.

INTENT OF OCI CARD MUST KEEP EVOLVING

CURRENTLY as per government rules Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card-holders can pursue seven professions in India. They are advocates, doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, architects and chartered accountants. Besides those with OCI are also eligible for appointment as teaching faculty in IITs, NITs, IIMs and Central Universities.

Maybe the government should consider widening the ambit by allowing some other professions. To start with engineers and researchers could be in the zone of consideration of professions that OCI card- holders could pursue in the country of their origin.

An OCI card acts as a powerful tool for those of Indian origin to maintain their heritage and contribute to India’s growth, while navigating the legal framework with due diligence and respect for the rules, laws and prevailing regulations.

Further an OCI card should be a very valuable asset that bridges our life between India and the country of our residence and continues to have benefits to individuals and to India. It is crucial for OCI cardholders and applicants to have a clear understanding of both the rights granted and the restrictions imposed. By doing so, we can maximize the benefits of our status while scrupulously remaining within the legal precincts set by the Indian government.

HUMANS TAKE NOTE!

HERE are some maximum temperatures recorded in some Indian cities: Lucknow 47 degrees, Delhi 52 degrees, Agra 45 degrees, Nagpur 49, Nagpur 49, Kota 48, Hyderabad 45, Pune 42, Ahmedabad 46, Mumbai 43, Nashik 42, Bangalore 40, Chennai 45, Rajkot 45, Guwahti 47 degrees…

Next year’s these cities will cross maximum 50 degrees. Even AC or fans will not save us in summer. Why is it so hot??? In last 10 years over 10 crore trees were cut for widening roads and highways. But not more than a lakh trees have been planted by government or public.

How to make India cool again??? Plant trees, don’t wait for government.  Sowing seeds or planting trees does not cost much. Just collect seeds of shatavari, bel, peepal, tulsi, mango, lemon, jamun, neem, custard apple, jackfruit, etc. Then dig two three inch hole in open spaces at roadsides, footpaths, highways, in your society, bungalow grounds, wherever there is empty space going. Bury the seeds some inches deep and then water them in summer, in rainy days no need to water. After 15 to 30 days small plants will be born.

Let us make this into a national movement to plant 10 crore tree across urban India. We should stop temperature from crossing 50 degrees. Please forward this message to all for planting trees on a war footing. Let’s distribute saplings as return gifts during functions like birthdays and anniversaries and births and deaths, etc. Everyone plant trees!

VACCINATION TYRANNY!

EVEN in Malaysia there is an awakening on the tragedy of Covid-vaccinated victims and deaths.  There was a gathering of solidarity when  Malaysians, who feel oppressed by the tyranny of the vaccination mandate which was enforced throughout the country so needlessly, on Sunday, May 26, 2024 in capital Kuala Lumpur. The gathering was made up of religious leaders, journalists/reporters and medical professionals and families which had lost relatives and friends to the deadly virus. A  medical doctor, Dr Kenny, lamented the many senseless deaths in Malaysia courtesy the ruthless Covid mandate. The gathering saw several posters put up of victims lost to Covid and as details were shared, many asked why the country should not compensate the victims’ families? The country and its government should be held responsible surely? Covid survivors are speaking up in Malaysia and asking for much needed help for families affected. The pharmaceutical vaccine companies must be called up to compensate victims dead or dying….so many nurses too died as front liners in the battle to save the covid affected patients.

Clearly, the Covid pandemic scam is out in the open and more are asking questions and demanding punishment for the guilty criminals as also aid for the victims alive and dead.
