FATE OF GOA’S ENVIRONMENT

23rd meeting of gsepc: Governor of Goa Satya Pal Malik in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant seen discussing the details of Goa’s deterioting environment at the 23rd meeting of the Goa State Environment Protection Council at Raj Bhavan on December 23, 2019. Issues discussed included a host of upcoming solid and hazardous management facilities at Cacora, Bainguinim, Verna, Chicalim, Pissurlem and elsewhere. The meeting also took note of the current status of Mhadei river dispute, status of coastal protection initiatives regarding beach erosion in Goa, mineral policy, river rejuvenation action plan, CZMP for Goa, the study of tar balls surfacing on beaches and demarcation of ESA’s in the Western Ghats. Also present for the mega meet were environmentalists Dr Nandkumar Kamat, Rajendra Kerkar, K.D. Sadhale, NIO scientist Dr Sushant Naik, gave their inputs on the various issues. Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat, cabinet ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai (IAS), Secretary for Governor Rupesh Kumar Thakur (IAS) and others were also present.
